Howard University School Of Law 2018 Cuba Program:
"Revolution & Social Justice"
How have Cubans - from attorneys to artists - remain committed to Justicia Social (Social Justice)? What can the world learn from Cuba’s revolutionary history, present, and future? This Curated Program was designed specifically for Howard University School of law, taking into consideration its revolutionary history and commitment to producing Social Engineers. As stated by Charles Hamilton Houston, “A lawyer’s either a social engineer or … a parasite on society … A social engineer [is] a highly skilled, perceptive, sensitive lawyer who [understands] the Constitution of the United States and [knows] how to explore its uses in the solving of problems of local communities and in bettering conditions of the underprivileged citizens.”
Each day we’ll engage in various educational activities such as community, cultural, and city tours, engagement with the University of Havana School of Law, and presentations, lectures, and discussions with notable Cuban scholars, artists, and entrepreneurs. We’ll study Cuba’s government, economic, legal and electoral systems, and discuss Cuba’s organization of law school, lawyers, judges, and the judicial system.
