Program Development Liaison / Lead Program Guide & Translator/Interpreter ~ Havana (Independent Contractor - Industry Expert Consultant)
Born in Santiago Cuba, and raised in La Habana Vieja, Gisela brings cities and words to life. She is an English Professor, Tour Guide, and Translator and Interpreter with over four decades of experience. She’s known the Davidson since 2008 and joined the team in 2015. Gisela ensures that no words are lost in Diaspora programs and meetings while building our relationships with Cuban communities and organizations. She infuses words with experience and meaning, brings stories and history to life, and is known to keep the Cuban side of this operation on task. She assists in program/project development, planning, and execution; she is a beloved Tour Guide who maintains relationships with many of our past clients; and as the Lead Translator/Interpreter she ensures that our clients and Cuban hosts have meaningful interactions, even when language could be a barrier.
She has translated for high-level organizations such as the Cuban Trade Union, Congress of World Peace Council, and a variety of Cuban and international officials; she’s diplomatic, yet down-to-earth. She has taught English in a number of high schools, colleges, and national institutions including, Language School of the Transportation Ministry, Cuban Trade Union, and National Bank of Credits and Commerce. She holds a B.A. in from the Higher Foreign Language Institute. She loves nature; reading classic novels and detective stories; and has a newfound interest in Hip-Hop music with positive and community oriented lyrics.
